⚾️Baseball Mostly 9/17

 “April 11th, 1974, 61, 195, left there. North Carolina, 96 through 08, pro-career.

New Hanover High School, Wilmington, North Carolina. Not UNC, did not go to college.

He premiered, I like saying, instead of debuted, he premiered at 22 years old. The 17,000th player in Major League history, Ron Shapiro, agent. Christopher Trotman-Nixon, Trotman, that's a great name.

04 World Series champ, War No. 7, 33-6, speaking of war, 21.2, career war, 3,627 at bats, 995 hits, 137 homers, 274 batter. Did not play at all in 1997 in the majors.

Played two games in 96, 13 in 98, 124 in 99. Officially rookie season, 9th rookie of the year, 10 seasons with the Bosauls, then one with they were the Cleveland Indians back then, now the Guardians. Then final one with the Nye Mets, 1,092 games, 579 runs, 222 doubles, 28 triples, 555 RBI, slightly more runs than RBI.

504 walks, 689 strikeouts, 364 on base career, a whopping 90 points higher than the BA. And playoffs, 6 different years in the playoffs. Just one of them with the Cleveland Indians, 07.

 “It's before 7 a.m. Let's go. And I'm doing baseball mostly.

It's the Emmys last night. The Traders took home the prize.

Love it.

Corey Koskie, third base. Yeah, shout out Allen from the Traders. Hacks won some awards.

Gene Smart went to U-Dub. Go Cougs. I saw Gene Smart in the Dinty Bar.

It was actually a set for the show Hacks. When I did background work on that show a few times. One of the times I got to watch them do stand up.

Paul Downs was there. He's a comedy writer.

I believe that's the name I'm trying to think of.

Let's see if I can pull it up here. Paul Downs writer.

Paul W. Downs. He's 41.

He went to Duke. He's a Dukey.

He actually had a role in Broad City on Comedy Central. Also a writer, director, executive producer for that show.

All right.

Yeah, he was a show runner for Hacks. He is a show runner for that show. Oh, he also co-stars in it.

 “it's 2024, man. We're in the future. Let's go.

Still adjusting to the 2020s.

Andrelton Simmons, no relation to Bill, shortstop, variety, 6-2, 195, Curacao, 2012-22, four-time gold glover and a platinum glover and a Wilson overall defensive player on the year. War number 19-2-9, speaking of war, 37.1, 4,441 at-bats, 1169 hits, 70 homers, 263 batter. 11 seasons, five with the Angels, four with the Braves, one with the Twins, one with the Cubbies, final one with the Cubbies, penultimate season in Minnesota.

Started off with the Braves, 1225 games, 444 RBI, 501 runs, 312 on base, good for 49 points higher than the BAA. Not a huge difference there. 14th MVP in 2013, 8th in MVP, 15th in 2017 and 18.

Gold Glove 2013, 14, 17, 18. Playoffs. Only two different playoffs and two series played in, 2012 and 13 with the Braves.

5 games, 19 played appearances, 4 hits, 1 double, 2 RBI, 250 batter. Negative 2.8%, championship win probability added. What about the money?

“Players who bat without batting gloves, Moises Alou, also Bryce Hoppa, Vlad Guerrero Jr., Vlad Guerrero Sr., to name a few. I love it, dude.

Outfield, that's right, 6'3, 185, Atlanta, Georgia. July 3rd, 1966, Kenyatta College, Redwood City, California. But went to high school in the Dominican Republic.

1990 through 08, a long career. Six-time All-Star, 97 World Series champ with the Florida Marlins, two-time Silver Slugger, brother of Luis Rojas, cousin of Mel Rojas, Jose Sosa, nephew of Jesus Alou, Maddie Alou, son of Felipe Alou. Quite the baseball family.

Lineage. War number 52 and 18, speaking of war, 39.9, 7,037 at bats, 2134 hits, 332 home runs. Sands the hand protection on the bat.

Because I saw Moises Alou said he loved his bat. He was in love with his bat. And you can only truly be in love with the bat if you go direct fingers to wood contact without any batting loves.

So there you go. 303 batting average. Wow, dude.

As far as these days go, that is off the charts for career batting average. 1,942 games in 17 seasons. Missed the entire 1991 and 1999 seasons because of injuries.

“Shortstop, third base, riding. Dominican Republic, 03 through 2017. Three-time All-Star.

War number 60, 16 to 27. Speaking of war, 30.4 career. 6,599 at bats, 1,761 hits, 202 homer, homer, 267 batter.

Mm, 1,798 games, 7,319 plate appearances, 841 runs, 873 RBI. Slightly more RBI. It's kind of rare for middle infielders.

376 doubles, and 14th in MVP in 2014, 2011, 13, and 15 all-stars. First eight seasons with, they were the Cleveland Indians, now the Cleveland Guardians. Then four seasons, Detroit Tigers, four seasons, St. Louis Cardinals.

Surprised was never an all-star in Cleveland. Postseason, playoff, six different years, with all three teams, 12 series. Went to the World Series with the Tigers, lost to the Giants 2012.

58 games, 54 hits. 256 batter, eight home runs, postseason.

26 RBI, 15 doubles, all big, good postseason numbers.

See, this is why the stat does not make sense. Championship win probability added, negative 23.4%. How can that be possible?

What about the money? 82.5 million on the career, solid. 15.5 million, 2014 with St. Louis, the most.

“Rookie of the Year, three-time All-Star, 2011 World Series Chomp. War number one in 15, speaking of war, 39.5, career war, 6477 at bats, 1,817 hits, 113 homers, 281 batter. Six seasons with the Dodgers, after starting with the Braves for six seasons, and then on to the Cardinals, did not play at all 2013, only played nine games in 2014 as a Marlin.

So 817 games as a Brave the most, 617 as a Dodger, 1614 in the career, 7237 played appearances, 1,063 runs, a big-time run scorer, 311 doubles, 69 triples, led the league with 10 in 03, All-Star 03 with the Braves, 010 with the Dodgers, 012 with the Cardinals. Another one, how many switch hitters have been All-Stars with at least three different teams? Get on that, Elias.

The most home runs in the season, only 15 in 03 and 06. Only 587 RBI, literally almost twice as many runs as RBI. A crazy ratio of runs to RBI.

📺Curb Your Enthusiasm spec script

Curb is mainly an improvisational show which is why it is funny to write a spec script for it - enjoy!

“Pocketful of Almonds”

Larry is out for a stroll on the Malibu beach with Charles Barkley - he notices that the Chuckster is reaching into the pocket of his khaki pants and snacking on a lil treat.

Larry - “…so anyway the ice cream cone melted and we all called it a day. Chuck, what are you eating there? Lemme get some of that.”

Charles - “Man, Larry why you always gotta be up in my business? It’s almonds - my doctor recommended them for gut health…and cuz I like the taste.”

Larry - “Ah, the Almond Brothers, we should call ourselves - bahahaha - I am a comedian, you know, I like to make jokes - it’s polite to laugh sometimes, like a Milk Bone for a dog - makes us know we are on the right track.”

Chuck - “Yeah yeah Larry, I was one of the funniest guys in the league - I know funny. *Drops almond by accident and quickly picks up a small object and pops it in his mouth before Larry notices* *A loud crunch noise bursts out and Larry turns to Chuck as he winces*

Larry - “Ouch - Chuck, are you OK? You look like your mouth is in pain.”

Chuck - “Ah man, I just bit down on a giant pebble of sand - thought it was an almond that I dropped and picked up quickly - dang, man, I gotta call my dentist now.”

Larry - “So sorry to hear that - wait why are you calling Rick Fox?”

Chuck - “Rick Fox is the second cousin of my dentist - I call Rick to set up appointments.”

Larry - “Your dentist receptionist is a three time NBA champion? He’s got more rings than you, Chuck!”

Chuck - “OK now that is NOT funny, Mr. Comedian.”

The two laugh and decide to go get froyo to temporarily ease the Chuckster’s mouth pain while he tries to get ahold of Rick Fox.

“yeah, go Cougs. Let's go. Elvis Andrus, shortstop, that's right, throws right.

Venezuela, August 26th, 1988. Marisee, Venezuela, 09 through 2023. He officially retired now, but has not played in the majors since last season.

Boris Corporation, two-time officer, war number 1, 1721. Speaking of war, 34.2. Very good career war.

7772 at bats, 2,091 hits. It's a lot of hits these days. 102 homers, 269 batter.

Not a ton of power at shortstop there. Only 695 OPS. Only 86 for you OPS Plus subscribers.

Well below average, actually. So, there's not a power hitter at all. 20 home runs season high in 2017.

380 doubles, though. A lot of doubles. Also season high 2017, 44.

So a big double man, 51 triples on the career. 775 RBI, 1,058 runs, 100 runs. Also season high, also 2017.

But surprisingly not an all-star in 2017. 2010 and 2012 all-stars. 15 seasons, 12 with the Texas Rangers.

Stanford, two-time All-Star, silver slugger. War number seven, 20, 18. Speaking of war, 10.5 on the career.

Only 2,790 at best. 702 hits, 154 homers. Another one of those high homerun to hit ratio.

252 batter. 06 through 2014, the career. Nine seasons, four with the White Sox, three with the hometown Padres.

Couple actually started off as a Arizona Dimeback. I don't even remember that. Remember him mostly as a White Sox.

All-star with them in 08 and 011. His first and final season with the Chi Sox. And 834 career games, fifth in MVP in 08.

Let's highlight that 08 season. 20 hit-by-pitches, 23 hit-by-pitches led Majors in 2011, 17 hit-by-pitches led the Majors in 2012. 100 RBI, 36 homers by far at the season high in 08.

26 doubles, 173 doubles on the career. Slightly more than homeruns. 288 batted in 08, 394 on base.
