The Cougs defeated the Eastern Washington Eagles (which 4/5 of their starting lineup played for last season as the Cougs are playing for former Eastern coach David Riley) 96-81 at Spokane Arena - let’s take a closer look at this huge win that bumped Wazzu up to a great start of 5-1, their lone loss coming in an essential road game in the Quad Cities vs the Iowa Hawkeyes (who are now 5-0 and play the Utah State Aggies in the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City, Missouri - the HOF Classic is a favorite of the A Star Is Born podcast that i host since i do a HOF or Not❓segment every day.) 🎧 available wherever you listen to podcasts ⭐️
• The Cougs shot 50% from the field and 53% from three point land (32/64 and 16/30).
• Both teams were 16/22 from the free throw line (73%).
• Each team had 10 steals and 4 blocks.
• The Eastern Eagles outscored the Cougs 52-28 in the paint and 24-13 on points off turnovers (of which the Cougs had 21).
• Eastern WA was just 3/19 from three point range and had only 11 fast break points to the Cougs’ 17.
• Both squads had a player come off the bench to score over 20 points - Isaiah Watts had 22 points and 3 steals for the Cougs on 6/12 from the field and 4/7 from three while Nic McClain had 24 points for the Eagles as well as 7 boards (4 offensive) and a whopping 6 steals.
